Newly opened West Fork Satellite Site
Main dining welcomes pleasant meals and conversation
Submitted by Brenda McBride
The Calhoun County Center on Aging (CCCOA) held their Grand Opening on October 30, 2007 for their West Fork Satellite Site in Minnora, WV. It has been a dream of Mike Ritchie and the CCCOA Board for quite some time, and their patience has just paid off.
The handicap accessible facility doesn't feel like a facility at all. The "homemade-antique" decorations make it feel more like home; complete with a warming kitchen, dining area, 2 baths including a shower, a fitness area, an office, and a sitting area.
Â
Six years ago, the CCCOA began their dream, purchasing some land with an old school and gym (former Minnora Elementary). They envisioned so much more. After using the school as their site for 6 years, the satellite site is open and fully operational.
Two employees, Site Coordinator Karen Moore, and Jennifer Moore, Bus Driver-Maintenance, make it happen. They have parties, games, Bingo, dinners, entertainment, social service programs, and even a fitness area. It is open Monday, Tuesday, and Thursdays, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.
