GET TEMPORARY TAGS ON-LINE, SAYS DMV

(10/31/2007)
The West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles is scrapping its decades-old system for processing temporary license tags.

The DMV plans to switch from paper processing to an Internet-based system next year.

Dealers currently have to mail or hand deliver vehicle registration information to the DMV.

Steve Dale, assistant to the DMV commissioner, says the new system can instantaneously register the 60-day tags.

Dale says the new system will benefit police as well as dealers.

Under the current system, it has been difficult for police to check the registration of temporary tags.

The DMV issues 176,000 temporary tags every year.
