Jim Fealy, executive director of the Gilmer County Economic Development Association, has announced that the GCEDA 2nd Annual Awards Dinner will be held on Monday, October 8, 2001 at 6 p.m. in the brand new Gilmer County Senior Citizen Center. Glenville State College will provide the catering service for the dinner and there will be featured entertainment.

This years award recipients are as follows:

Senior Service Award - Fred Killingsworth (posthumously) Mr. Killingsworth bequeathed $500,000 to enable the Senior's to construct their new state-of-the-art facility.

Youth Service Award - Marge Burke and Susie Kirkpatrick. Marge Burke, a former long time member of the West Virginia House of Delegates, has been involved with the county's youth for nearly a half century. She has been a 4-H leader for 41 years and has long been an advocate of agricultural issues. Susie Kirkpatrick has been a 4-H leader for 16 years and is always doing her best to make sure that Gilmer County's children are given every opportunity available.

Business of the Year - Glenville Foodland. Glenville Foodland is always there for the citizen's of the county. They donate food and supplies to many noteworthy causes including GSC Football. You can always count on Foodland to sponsor events and to ensure that the citizen's of the county are provided with tremendous service.

Community Service Award - Gilmer County Volunteer Firefighters. What more needs to be said about individuals that will put their lives on the line day in and day out to protect and serve the residents of this area. They truly are heroes that put the safety of others above their own safety.

Gilmer Countians of the Year - The Gilmer County Titans 2001 Class A State Baseball Champions. The team, underrated all year long, made a fantastic run through the Sectional, Regional and State Baseball Championship. Guided by Joey Frashure, the youngest Coach to ever win a state title, the Titans boosted the morale of all Gilmer Countians and put Glenville on the map. This all just one year after their former beloved Coach David Jaffre collapsed and died during the Sectional Tournament.
