STABBING DEATH OVER LIGHTER - A man accused of killing a Huntington man over a cigarette lighter was in court yesterday for a hearing.
Dennis Mills, 51, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Randy Gue, Jr.
Police say Mills stabbed Gue at least 20 times because Gue was attempting to steal a car lighter.
WHEELING WOMAN ROBBED AND STABBED -- Wheeling police were out in full force on the south end of Wheeling Island Thursday night after a woman was stabbed.
Police said the victim had to be taken to a local hospital as a result of her injuries.
Authorities say the woman was robbed and stabbed in the neck after someone entered a home on South Penn Street.
STATE POLICE SHOOT AT SUSPECT - State Police say they were forced to shoot at a car driving toward them after a short chase in Sissonville Thursday night.
A news release from the West Virginia State Police, troopers were conducting a traffic safety checkpoint on Route 21 near Chandler Drive when a Chevy S-10 pickup pulled up and one of the passengers appeared to be hiding something.
After the troopers asked the pickup driver, Marlin Koch, 43 of Renick to pull over, they say he initially followed instructions, but then took off.
State Police say he pulled into a private driveway and drove behind a someone's house.
Troopers say that when they got out of their cruisers and headed to the back of the house, the pickup truck pulled out and accelerated in their direction.
According to the release, two troopers unloaded their weapons toward the pickup truck, but did not hit anyone inside.
State Police say Koch immediately stopped after the shots were fired.
Koch is charged with fleeing while driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license, assault during the commission of a felony, possession of marijuana, and other traffic offenses.
They say Koch was a fugitive from New York for probation violations.
Koch's two passengers, Randy Paul of Lewisburg, and Curtis Hinkle of Beckley, were both charged with possession of marijuana.
