Led by Anna Sampson's third place finish the Calhoun High School girls
cross country team took third place in the West Virginia Insurance
Classic Saturday at Ellenboro.
Sampson covered the 3.1-mile course in 23:54.95 on a hot and humid day
to lead the Red Devils to a 65-point finish, behind Doddridge (26) and
Ritchie (39).
Sampson was backed by fellow junior Maria Kisner in 16th place with a
time of 29:57.22.
Kisner led a gaggle of Calhoun runners as she was followed by Tracy
King in 17th (30:42.31); Carrie Graffius in 18th (31:20.17): Kayla
Hixon in 19th (31:25.18) and Barbara Richards in 20th (38:21.43).
Richards is still recovering from a knee injury suffered earlier in
the season and Hixon was slowed by a fall about midway through the race.
On the boys side Josh Parson took 10th with a time of 20:52.81. He was
followed by Cai Clothier in 24th (24:10.74) and Will Oshe in 25th
(26:42.06).
In the middle school part of the race Calhoun's David Overbay 44th
with a time of 22:16.
Cheyenna Oshe, Calhoun's other middle school runner, was unable to run
because of an injury and Calhoun High School runner Athena Wagoner was
unable to attend the meet.
Calhoun returns to action Thursday in the LKC Championship Meet at
Cedar Creek. The meet is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.
The middle school team will end its season Tuesday when it competes in
the Doddridge Middle School Invitational at West Union.
