Joe Allen Craddock, 67, of Spencer, W.Va., went to be with the Lord Saturday,
Sept. 29, 2001, at his home with family present.
He was born Sept. 20, 1934, in Spencer, the son of the late Oral and Grace
Atkinson Craddock. He worked 35 years for C&P Telephone Co., and AT&T,
retiring in 1990. Upon retiring, he continued his telephone contracting business until
his death. He loved farming, hunting, and the great outdoors.
He graduated from Spencer High School in 1952, where he played football and
basketball. Joe was a member of the Spencer Church of the Nazarene and the
Spencer-Roane Volunteer Fire Department. He served as assistant fire chief for
eight years, and was a dedicated 50-year member of the department. He was
selected as Citizen of the Year by the Roane County Chamber of Commerce for
the year of 2000.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Anna Belle Webb Craddock; one daughter,
Angela Mace of Spencer; four sons, Jeff of Ashland, Ky., Greg of Ripley, W.Va.,
and Chris and Mark, both of Spencer; six granddaughters; eight grandsons; one
great-grandson; and two sisters, Janet Burgess of Spencer and Linda Reed of
Ripley.
Service will be held Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at 2 p.m., at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral
Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Tim Bess officiating. Burial will be in the Clover
Cemetery near Spencer. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 4 to 9 p.m. at the
funeral home.
