The Gilmer Invitational was something of a preview of the upcoming
Little Kanawha Conference cross country championships since it was run
at Cedar Creek State Park, where the LKC will be held.
And if the preview is any indication of how things will play out, a Red
Devil sweep is possible. A Ravenswood Red Devil sweep.
Ravenswood's boys, the defending state Class AA-A champions, easily
won its side while the girls team pulled off the sweep by scoring 38
points for the victory.
Calhoun was fourth with 102.
The top runner for Calhoun was Anna Sampson, who finished ninth
overall with a time of 23:24. Tracy King in 23rd, Maria Kisner in
25th, Carrie Graffius in 26th and Athena Wagner in 27th backed her.
On the boys side Josh Parsons led the way for Calhoun with a time of
19:52 and a 16th place finish against one of the toughest fields in
the state with powerhouse Ravenswood and Doddridge running ace Levi
Grandt competing.
Cai Clothier backed Parsons with a 29th place finish while Will Oshe was 32nd.
In middle school running Cheyenna Oshe was 18th with a time of 18:31
while David Overbay was 24th with a time of 18:50.
Calhoun returns to action Wednesday in the Charleston Catholic
Invitational at Camp Virgil Tate in Sissonville.
