Community center packed with vets and family
members for 8th annual appreciation dinner

West Virginia's VFW commander Robert Caruthers and the state's VFW Ladies Auxiliary president Rowena Davis attended the 8th annual Veteran's Appreciation Dinner at Arnoldsburg Saturday.

A large crowd of veterans from World War II, Korea, Vietnam and other military actions enjoyed the special occasion sponsored by the local VFW Ladies Auxiliary #5959 held at the Community Center.

Several local and state VFW members spoke at the event, which honored a number of veterans. Musicians Eugene Parson's Band, Bill and Hazel Westfall, Tom and Carol Wriston and Bobby Bell and the Back Fork Bluegrass performed for the event.

VFW Ladies Auxiliary president Frances Tanner recognized 91-year-old Lee Jones of Big Bend as the oldest veteran attending and Jim Horner for his 27-years of service, among others.

The VFW van drivers who make runs to Clarksburg and Morgantown were honored for their service, so far this year.

Robert Yoak, 516 hours; Dan Uplinger, 384 hours and Adrian Ball, 168 hours, involving the transport of 225 patients, according to Paul and Freda Whytsell, coordinators.
