| A well-known Roane County law enforcement officer was killed in a car crash on Ripley Road-US 33, just west of Spencer Monday evening.
The Spencer-Roane Volunteer Fire Department and the Roane County Emergency Squad responded to the wreck near the Grandview Motel, where the victim was reportedly trapped in the vehicle.
The accident happened about 5:15 p.m. during a rain shower.
Firemen and rescue workers were on the scene for at least an hour.
They used the jaws-of-life to extract the man, who was reportedly dead on arrival at Roane General Hospital.
