"Wild and Wonderful" once welcomed drivers into the state.
Most recently, Governor Joe Manchin's initiative to bring business into West Virginia changed the signs to "Open for Business."
The outcry has been loud.
"When I first took office, I felt it was important to use the welcome signs to truly kick off our state's new 'Open for Business' attitude so that not just our visitors, but our citizens, knew how seriously we took our commitment to economic development," Manchin said.
Manchin, touting development under his watch, says "Our office has recorded over 140 businesses that have either been created or expanded in West Virginia since 2005, bringing with them thousands of good jobs with benefits to areas all across our state."
His office is reaching out to the people of the state to decide what the permanent "Welcome to West Virginia" signs should say.
Manchin's office says the first step is to decide if state residents want a permanent slogan. You can cast your vote, as well as offer some suggestions for the slogan, by logging onto www.wvgov.org
wv.gov www.wvtourism.com between now and September 19.
Residents who don't have Internet access, may call 1-866-SLOGAN-4 to cast their vote. |
