By Bob Weaver 12:30 PM - A disheveled man reportedly entered the Trader's Bank in Spencer about noon today, with early reports indicating he had a gun or knife, unconfirmed. Bank officers called law enforcement and the man fled through a back door. Early reports did not indicate the man was involved in holding-up the bank, but shortly a search was on for what appeared to be a hold-up. Spencer Police, State Police and the Roane County Sheriff's Department quickly responded to the bank, located on the corner of Main and Market Streets. Bank employees said a man had a cut on his hand. The suspect was wearing a gray t-shirt, was wearing blue jeans, and had a tattoo on his left forearm. A report said the man entered a nearby barber shop, removing his t-shirt, after which he apparently fled. Officers converged to the corner of Market St. and Bartlett Avenue about 12:30 p.m., with some sources saying the man was apprehended. Authorities are now interviewing Traders Bank employees. More to follow. |
