West Virginia highways are in greater disrepair than anytime in recent years, but the state is coming up with a record $95 million for road paving in this fiscal year.
Calhoun could get eight miles of re-surfacing during the next fiscal year.
The department has been spot patching Rt. 16 and US 33.
About 1,500 miles of new asphalt could be put down across the state, or about 400 more miles than last fiscal year.
West Virginia has about 37,370 miles of roads.
Dave Brabham with the district office in Parkersburg says Calhoun paving projects have been submitted for funding, but have yet to be authorized:
- CR 7 Russett Rd - from Jct. CR 7/13 to Jct. CR 7/6, 2.57 miles.
- WV 16 - from CR 16/12 to WV 5, 2.90 miles.
- WV 5 - from Jct. 35/5 to CR 4, 2.51 miles.
The department announced re-surfacing on a short stretch of US 33-119 between Millstone and Sand Ridge, plus about one mile on each of the forks of Daniels Run.
Transferring expenses such as the Courtesy Patrol to other departments freed up funding and the Legislature extended the nickel-a-gallon gas tax.
Last week, lawmakers kicked in 25 million dollars that will go directly to the 10 highway districts. |
