MAN STABBED AT CHARLESTON AIRPORT - An Executive Air employee was released from the hospital yesterday after being stabbed in the neck as he walked to his car in the employee parking lot.

The attack happened about 10 p.m. Yeager Airport spokesman Brian Belcher said he suffered "puncture wounds to the neck and there were marks on his chest and face."

Lt. Bryan Stover of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department said police believe the attack was an isolated incident.

PISTOL PACKIN' PREACHER - A Ripley Baptist Church minister's penchant for guns came to light last month. His .38-caliber revolver and an ankle holster were stolen from his desk during a July 24th break-in at the church. About $250 in petty cash was also taken.

Miller told Charleston newspapers there has been some murmuring in the community about a pastor having a firearm, but he points out that he has the same right to bear arms as anyone else.

The former Louisville, Kentucky, police officer has a permit for the weapon, which he keeps for protection.

Beyond several B & E's he says there have been times when people came into the church in a "threatening" manner.

PEPPER SPRAYING WOMAN INTERVENES - A woman used pepper spray to break up a fight in which a man was stabbed in the chest and cut across the neck, according to Charleston police.

Brian Shafer, was taken to Charleston Area Medical Center's General Hospital, where he was treated for injuries.

The woman who used the pepper spray to break up the fight had not been involved before intervening, police said.

Police arrested Ray Patton, 59, of Charleston. He was taken to South Central Regional Jail and charged with malicious wounding.

SLASHED ACROSS BACK OF NECK - Charleston Police have arrested Shawn Robert Thompson, 35, accused of a knifing at a local bar.

Sgt. Aaron James said Thompson discovered police were looking for him and decided to turn himself in.

He is accused of attacking Matthew Russell II, 40, at the Bird Cage bar.

Russell was slashed across the back of the neck three times with a pocket knife. He received 29 staples to close the wounds but none of the injuries were life threatening.

Thompson said he was just trying to defend himself during a fight.

TEAR DROP BANDIT - An arrest warrant has been issued for a Boone County man in connection with an armed robbery at Lori's Pub in Hernshaw.

Arlie Ray Staley, 36, of Sylvester, allegedly went into the bar, brandished a firearm and fled with an undisclosed amount of money.

He has a "teardrop" tattoo next to his left eye.

Police said Staley should be considered armed and dangerous.

MANHUNT ON - A manhunt continues in Mercer County for the suspect in a shooting near Princeton.

The Mercer County Sheriff's Department is seeking your help in finding Michael Kanode.

He is considered armed and dangerous and driving a white van.

Authorities say if you see Kanode or know his whereabouts, call 911 immediately.

ATTEMPTED MURDER - Police have charged an 18-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman with attempted murder in Guyandotte.

A man was the target, according to criminal complaints charging Joshua David Hatten, 18, and Vanessa Reney Fields, 22, with felony attempted murder and misdemeanor fleeing.

Huntington police said the victim was in bed at his residence when he thought he heard firecrackers outside. When he went to the front door, he saw a man raise a shotgun toward his head.

The two suspects fired rounds into the front door as he covered his daughter and laid on the floor for protection.
