The West Virginia Division of Highways is announcing the closure of Morehead Truss Bridge on WV Rt. 14, located approximately 2 miles south of Palestine, according to Cliff Essig, District Three Bridge Engineer.
The bridge will be closed beginning Tuesday, August 7th, 2007. The closure will facilitate repairs to both ends of the bridge deck, and is necessary to allow completion of the repairs prior to the beginning of the school at the end of August.
It is anticipated that the closure will last approximately three weeks, but inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances may extend the project schedule.
The closure is located 4 miles south of Elizabeth and 18 miles north of Spencer on WV Rt. 14.
Motorists traveling from Spencer on WV Rt. 14 will use US Rt. 33 to Ripley and I-77 north to Mineral Wells as a detour around the closure. Motorists traveling from Elizabeth will use WV Rt. 5 to Grantsville, then WV Rt. 16 to Arnoldsburg and Rt. 33 to Spencer as a detour.
Local residents who are familiar with secondary roads in the area will also have other routes to utilize during this closure. Motorists are reminded that a 15 ton posting remains in place for Wirt CR 24/1, Three Bridges Rd.
The Division of Highways appreciates the patience of traveling public during this time.
