A Ritchie County community is on edge after police say a man killed his wife Wednesday just before midnight.
West Virginia State Police Sgt. James Stout says 42-year-old William Echard shot and killed his wife Gina Echard following a domestic dispute.
Sgt. Stout says Echard then fled their home on Mellin Ridge and shot himself in the chest.
Echard was taken to St. Joesph's Hospital where he's been upgraded from critical to fair condition this afternoon.
Police are guarding Echard in the hospital.
