Harley Ray Cummings, 96, of Gip, West Virginia, died Tuesday, July 17, 2007, at his home.
He was born at Gip on April 9, 1911, the youngest child of the late James L. and Clarissa A. Gifford Cummings. On June 23, 1938, he married Clara E. "Katie" Kelly, a daughter of the late James L. and Martha E. Ellison Kelly. Katie preceded him in death on February 23, 2004.
Ray was a Baptist by faith, and a member of the Elmira Missionary Baptist Church. He was a carpenter, mechanic, timberman, and worked for 17 years on the coal tipple at the Widen mines.
He is survived by a daughter Helen Mollohan of Servia; sons, Leon Cummings and companion Joyce Davis of Bridgeport, Jerry Cummings of Gip, Keith Cummings and wife Kathy of Martinsburg; six grandchildren, Kim Henline and husband Mike of Greer, SC, Renee Cummings of Fairmont, Jennifer Toler and husband Chris of Flatwoods, Dana Cummings and Kevin Cummings of Martinsburg, Brian Cummings and wife Ann of Bethany Beach, Delaware; and six great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by sisters and brother, Blanche Cottrill, Julia Wilson, Sadie Cummings, and Tom Cummings.
Ray was proud of his 96 years, and it pleased him to tell people that he had lived all those years at his family home at Gip.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 20 at the Stump Funeral Home at Arnoldsburg. Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Dewey Tanner officiating. Interment will be in the Sugar Hill Cemetery. |
