The big Creston ATV Poker Run will be held Saturday, July 21, starting at 9 A. M. at the Creston Community Building. Everyone from grandpa to the great grandchildren and the dogs go on this ride, which will have something for everyone including some mud for those who like to play. The cooks have been & will be busy and there are several nice door prizes.
Euell Russell was consulting with Dr. Lynn Gilbert.
As the result of a Schenerlein family wedding in Tennessee, Wilbur Harrison Schenerlein IV got to spend the weekend at the Engelke residence on the Richardsonville road providing entertainment to the grandparents.
Keith Belt brought the message at the Burning Springs M. E. Church. Nancy Hall did not get a good report from her doctor and Eva G. Pennington is to be scheduled for additional surgery.
The local area received some good rains which have made second cutting grow in many meadows. Over along the Ohio River the corn looks good and, locally, the tobacco has decided to grow.
Helen and Jackie Nutter were attending to business in Elizabeth. Jackie reported that her white German Shepard, Heidi, was available for adoption.
While some folks have come to get cuddly little kittens, Alvin Engelke still has some more to give away to good homes. Alvin also attended the summer meeting of the state Republican Executive committee. There was an excellent panel discussion on why West Virginia rates 50th in business climate in the nation, down from 49th last year.
The Big Boss was said to have noted that this had to be wrong since he had a better slogan and had been working to get more gambling, tattoo & massage parlours and strip mines, all of which should put West Virginia up there with "the best". Down in the cellar with West Virginia were Louisiana, noted for political corruption & citizens who expect others to do everything for them, and Maine where house painters command $35/hour and cleaning ladies fetch $20/hour. It was also noted that the Big Boss and the powers that be in the legislature all went to a posh resort in Puerto Rico to learn how to better do things (at least some sorts of things, perhaps how to mix rum).
Mother Hope (Dominion) noted that Hastings station, their stripping plant would be down this week for repairs. One local resident went out the short line one day last week and saw the facility which is very impressive as well as very, very lucrative for Dominion.
The price of Penn grade crude rose $1.25/bbl over the week end so now local oil fetches $69 while equal oil in Pennsylvania is worth $70/bbl.
About 7 A. M. Universal's frac trucks went up the Ann's Run side of the West Fork and later Meeks' Wire Line and Russell Hupp's (Cad Energy) vehicles went up the Richardsonville road. Some wondered how all this would be done and one fellow said, "They'd meet in the middle." Later the frac trucks went up the Richardsonville road and sometime after 10 P. M. that evening they went back down the road, grabbing gears as fast as they could. One might say that some folks had a very long day.
