Yea, though I walk through the Valley of the Shadow of Death, I fear no evil for thou art with me . . .And the hand of Midian prevailed over Israel . . . and it came to pass when the children of Israel cried unto the Lord . . . and the Lord sent a prophet . . . and the Lord said, "Surely, I will be with thee and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man". . . .And the three hundred blew the trumpets & brake the pitchers . . .and all the host ran & cried and fled and [the Midianites] set every man's sword against his fellow and the host fled . . .

The main news in Creston has been the news over the entire world when some bloody cutthroats who had been given carte blanche by the former administration pulled off the biggest terror strike in history. Now the "wise ones in Washington" can quit telling whoppers about "wonderful" socialistic programs and do what the federal government is supposed to do, defend the borders.

While news reports indicate that crude oil prices have gone up by significant amounts, the posted price of local crude has yet to go up and now that the folks who sell gas to domestic customers got their big raise, the price has fallen to about one fourth of what it was last January. The January gas price was used to justify the high domestic rates.

Local residents continue to see flocks of wild turkeys and many trophy bucks, along with several bushy tails. In short there should be lots of good eating this fall and winter.

There was a lot of participation in the benefit yard sale for Junior Wilson out at Annamoriah.

Barbara Ann Lynch fell and broke her ankle.

It was learned that Sam Jack Drilling will soon have a triple rig available for deep drilling. They have entered into a contract with Eastern American Energy Corp. to drill over 100 wells to the Black River formation.

Great Lakes Geophysical is setting up seismic tests from Mineral Wells to Reedy and then out Route 53 from Elizabeth. The prospecting is illegal without written permission from mineral owners but this is the way it has been done thus giving all the cards to the out of state firms who keep West Virginia high in the poverty statistics.

Nancy & Alvin Engelke motored to Peoria Illinois for her sister's 50th wedding anniversary celebration. Betty & Bill Welch and family gathered for a family gathering in spite of the national tragedy. They all felt lucky and blessed under the circumstances. Many other meetings, conferences, etc. had to be canceled or postponed because of the disruption to travel, etc.

They attended church in Peoria, the first service which had something over 1000 present. While love was stressed there was no shortage of patriotism and reading of appropriate passages from both the Old & New Testaments.

It is not clear how the acts of war will immediately affect the Creston area although many, especially in the airline industry are out of work. However, those who are associated with the U. S. Military forces will, no doubt, be busy for some time.
