A new addition to the Hur Herald is Janet Siers' Chloe News. For those not familiar with Calhoun villages, Chloe is one of the remaining post offices that serves several sections off State Rt. 16 in southern Calhoun.
Janet returned to the country home of her parents to help take care of her mother, Ruby Siers, who was long-suffering with Alzheimer's Disease. Her mother has now passed, but Janet has remained with her 87-year-old dad, Ray Siers.
"I love my life here in the country," she said, although she infrequently leaves the house, except to shop or for doctor's appointments.
Janet operates Janet's Styles and Smiles hair salon in the family home. "It's always wonderful to have a customer stop in, we really enjoy the visit," she said.
"I am joyful about life on most days," Janet said, following the simple rituals of country life, including feeding her "wild chickens."
While personal columns are rapidly becoming part of newspaper history in rural communities, Janet's rendition, beyond the comings and goings around her, is about the smallest of events, which remain appealing in our fast-paced world.
We hope Herald readers will read about Janet's world from Chloe, West Virginia.
You are welcome to submit news tips to her by phone or e-mail.
