Robert Basnett, 79 of Big Bend, Calhoun County, died Friday, September 14 at Camden-Clark
Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg.
Born in Calhoun County, he was a son of the late James and Virginia Starcher Basnett. He was
a US Army Veteran of WW II. He was a prisoner of war, being captured by the German Army at
the Battle of the Buldge and was held in a German prison camp from December 31, 1944 until
April 15, 1945.
Surviving are his wife, Lucille Kerby Basnett and three sons, Robert Basnett, Jr. and James Lee
Basnett both of Morgantown, NC and Terry Basnett of Zebulon, NC, three daughters, Judith
Ann Meadows and Brenda Radabaugh both of Big Springs, WV and Debra Basnett of Big Bend,
15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Reverend
Berry Miller and Reverend Larry Jones will officiate. Interment will be in the Bryner Chapel
Cemetery near Mt. Zion. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
