Ann Louise Stalnaker, 83, of High St., Glenville, departed this life at 1:35 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2007, at her residence following an extended illness.
She was born Aug. 14, 1923, at Cabot Station, Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Raymond L. (Jim) and Beulah Burch Carpenter.
Ann was a graduate of Normantown High School class of 1942 and had recently attended her 65th reunion. During World War II, she worked for Firestone Rubber and Tire Co. in Akron, Ohio, as a riveter in their defense plant making airplanes. She was then a graduate of Glenville State College in 1966 and employed by the W.Va. Department of Welfare as a social worker in Gilmer and Calhoun counties. She was still a loyal Normantown Viking and a member of the Kanawha Drive Church.
On Nov. 6, 1948, she was married to Jack V. Stalnaker, who survives at their Glenville home. One daughter and one son survive, Sue Ann Charles and husband, Ted, of Buffalo, N.Y., and David Stalnaker and wife, Judy, of Glenville. Three grandchildren survive, Erin Nichols of Buffalo, N.Y., Gretchen Stalnaker of Phoenix, Ariz., and Abigail Stalnaker of Glenville.
Ann is survived by four siblings, Helen Harris of Spencer, June Westfall of Akron, Ohio, Doug Carpenter of Smith Mountain Lake, Va., and Mary Lou Powell of Wadsworth, Ohio. One sister-in-law survives, Maureen Carpenter of Hanceville, Ala., wife of her late brother, Gary; and her caregiver for the past several years, Ramona King of Glenville.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Ellyson Mortuary Inc., Glenville. Burial will follow in the Collins Cemetery, Stumptown. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.
