Zelma Pauline Cox, 83, of Harrisville, W.Va., died June 24, 2007, at her residence.
She was born Oct. 26, 1923, in Creston, W.Va., the daughter of the late Benjamin and Julia Jarvis Hedges.
Mrs. Cox formerly taught in the Ritchie County School System at both Cairo and Harrisville High Schools. She was retired from the Gaithersburg, Md., School System. Mrs. Cox was a graduate of West Virginia University, where she earned both a bachelor's and master's degree. In her free time, she earned a private pilot's license.
In addition to her husband, Delton W. Cox, Mrs. Cox is survived by one son, William Smail of Gaithersburg, Md.; one sister, Merle Kiminsky of Ft. Myers, Fla.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by one son, Randal Smail; and two brothers, Dale and Gale Hedges.
Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at Raiguel Funeral Home, Harrisville, with the Rev. Harlan Hodge officiating. Burial will be conducted at the convenience of the family in the Cooper Cemetery, Creston, W.Va. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
