TRUCK PLANT WILL OPEN IN WILLIAMSTOWN

(06/22/2007)
Following weeks of rumors, a new truck plant is coming to Williamstown in the old Walker Machinery location. Walker closed in 2005.

The company is expected to hire about 50 workers at start-up.

Gov. Joe Manchin is scheduled to make the official announcement Monday.

Although officials have been mum about which business will locate there, Hino Motors Manufacturing U.S.A. Inc. was awarded a business license by the state June 18 that lists the Williamstown address.

Hino is a Toyota Group company that produces class 4, 5, 6 and 7 trucks.

For the fiscal year that ended March 31, 2007, the company reported a 39 percent sales increase, according to a news release.

The company sold 6,595 trucks during that year. The company's goal for this fiscal year is 7,550 sales.

The nearly 200,000-square-foot building is on 30 acres off of state Route 14 just south of Williamstown.

About 300 people lost their jobs when Walker closed.
