Braxton County's Mountaineer Food Bank has distributed 5.7 million pounds of food to the state, mostly through local food banks.
The group's mission is to alleviate hunger in West Virginia.
Since 2000, they have distributed 38 million pounds of food from their warehouse.
"With the rising costs of everyday living expenses, more people are turning to feeding programs for assistance," says Executive Director, Carla Nardella.
The number of feeding programs that we served each month in 2006 has increased 9% from the previous year.
