Bernard McDonald, 96, of Mt. Zion, WV, died Monday, September 10, at his home.
Born at Mt. Zion, he was a son of the late Clay and Nancy McDonald. He attended West
Virginia University and Salem College.
He was elected by the people in 1930 to a 4 year term as Calhoun County Superintendent of
Schools. He taught throughout Calhoun County as an elementary teacher in one room schools.
He lived on and operated the home farm since 1925. He was employed by West Virginia
Department of Weights and Measures and the Calhoun County ASC. He retired in 1970 from
the United States Department of Agriculture.
Mr. McDonald is survived by a son, Daniel Clay McDonald of Sycamore Community, Millstone,
WV, two daughters, Cathleen McDonald of Athens, Ohio and Judy McDonald Jarvis of Mt.
Zion, ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Orr McDonald in 2000, a brother, Dewitt McDonald,
a sister, Denna McDonald and a grandson, Kenneth McDonald.
Graveside services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Mt. Zion, WV. Friends
may call at the Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
