Braxton County Memorial Hospital officials have restricted access to their facility after four workers became ill.
Hospital administrator Ben Vincent said workers had respiratory problems which led to nausea and vomiting.
The Department of Environmental Protection has sent investigators to the hospital after being contacted by the local health department.
DEP spokeswoman Jessica Greathouse said workers complained about having a metal taste in their mouths.
Vincent said that patients in the affected area were moved to other areas of the hospital.
Non-critical patients are being diverted to other facilities but the hospital remains open.
