Staats draws big crowd to Grantsville's Main Street Saturday night
The 45th annual Calhoun Wood Festival wound down Saturday night with the magnificent mandolin music of Johnny Staats, accompanied by the Delivery Boys.
Staats appeared on the big Main Street stage before one of the largest crowds to fill the Grantsville street in several years.
County residents brought their lawn chairs, filling Main Street, while others sat on the courthouse steps and lawn.
A new fan from Georgia flew to West Virginia to attend Staats' Grantsville concert.
A number of musicians and groups graced the stage throughout the festival.
Staats' CD, "Wires and Wood" demonstrates Johnny's dazzling mandolin and expressive voice with a stellar cast of bluegrass legends including John Cowan, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Jim Hurst, and Tim O'Brien. Other co-stars on the CD are Sara Evans and Kathy Mattea.
Johnny has appeared on NBC's Today Show, he has been featured in People, and Country Music magazines. He has appeared on the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather, and on CNN, Johnny has performed several times on the Grand Ole Opry Stage.
"To date, Staats continues to head out everyday in his big brown UPS truck, and no matter how busy he gets with his music, folks around the Sandyville, West Virginia area can still count on Johnny to deliver right on time."
