Jude Binder is the talented and shining light of Heartwood in the Hills, whose motto is
"Celebrating the artist in every person" since 1982. Binder, the Artistic Director of the
center, is one of the most energized women you'll ever meet. You can feel her energy
and sense her vision.
She believes in her work, which is directed toward healing, personal growth, creative
skills and self-expression through the arts. She is a joy to watch with children.

Binder is an accomplished artist, playwright, teacher and director who has received
many awards and accolades. "Nature is our textbook," she said, with the Heartwood
campus located in a pastoral field surrounded by woods near Five Forks. Heartwood
and the people who assist Binder with teaching and projects, is a real asset to rural
Calhoun County and West Virginia, a treasure in the hills.

Saturday, the center held an open house, inviting potential new students and visitors
to the center. Fall classes will begin September 10 and will continue through
December. Transportation for Heartwood classes is generally available.
