All-Conference and All-State Honoree to Continue Career at GSC
The Glenville State College women's volleyball program has received a commitment from prep outside-middle hitter Courtney McKown of Orma, West Virginia. Courteny has announced her intention to attend and compete in volleyball at GSC, starting with the 2007-08 academic term. The announcement was made by 2nd-year GSC head coach Lee Anderson.
The 6-1 McKown led her Calhoun County High School team to the WV State Tournament this past fall. For her efforts throughout the season, McKown was named 1st Team All-LKC (Little Kanawha Conference) and 1st Team All-State. McKown's play was also recognized at the State Tournament, as she was named to the 2006 All-Tournament Team. McKown is no stranger to post-season honors, as she earned 1st Team All-LKC honors as a junior and sophomore. She was 2nd Team All-State in 2005, and Honorable Mention in 2004.
"Courtney is an intriguing athlete," Coach Anderson comments. "She has great athleticism and coordination for her size. I am really looking forward to getting her in the gym and working on the technical aspects of her game. I think Courtney will make great leaps and bounds throughout her freshman year, and I'm very excited to have her as a part of our program."
Along with being a volleyball standout, Courtney has been a letter winner in both Basketball and softball throughout her high school career.
