Covering jazz standards such as Count Basie's "One O'Clock Jump" and a Herbie Hancock-Gloria Lynne tune called "Watermellon Man"
the Glenville State College Jazz Band gave an impressive performance Friday.
"The arts are alive and well in Gilmer County," director Dr. Donna Maher told the crowd.
The Gilmer County High School Jazz Band, under the direction of John Lopez, opened the concert. They also returned to the stage, joining the college band for the last number, "Abracadabra."
The GSC Jazz Band has been invited to give the closing performance at the St. Mary's Jazz Festival May 19. Maher said all members agreed to the performance even though school is out.
