Charles Brooks Tanner, 67, of Nebo, West Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on April 27, 2007.
Charles was born July 2, 1940 a son of the late Romie and Halsie Dawson Tanner. He married Betty Stockwell in 1957. The two of them recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on January 26th.
Charles was a member and deacon of the Nebo Baptist Church for several years. He was also an original member of the Tanner Boys Quartet, formed in 1975. Charles retired as Superintendent from the State Road Garage at Amma. In 1999, Charles and Betty were presented with the "Hometown Hero" award from WSAZ for their contributions to the community. Together they changed a simple piece of land into "Charlie's Park" which hosted many community gatherings and came to be loved by everyone. Charles was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
In addition to his loving wife, Betty Tanner, survivors include one daughter, Sheila McCune of Spencer; two sons, David and Kenneth Tanner both of Nebo; two brothers, Ronald and Harold Tanner both of Big Otter; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
The visitation will be at the Nebo Baptist Church, Sunday, April 29 from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. followed by the funeral service, with Pastor Dewey Tanner officiating. Burial will be in the Hardman Cemetery, Nebo.
