Thousands of West Virginia hunters headed to the woods yesterday with their turkey calls and guns.
The spring gobbler season started yesterday morning and will continue through May 19th.
Out of area residents have taken-up camp in Calhoun to launch the season.
Turkey can be bagged a half hour before sunrise until 1 pm, when hunters are required to be out the woods.
Officials with the Division of Natural Resources say fewer wild birds are roaming the hillsides.
WV hunters killed nearly 12,000 gobblers last spring.
