A Gilmer County man has been found not guilty of second degree murder.
Everett Campbell took the stand yesterday in his defense for shooting Mark Medley, his ex-wife's boyfriend.
The shooting happened last summer at Sand Fork.
Campbell told the jury he feared for the lives of his children and himself when Medley arrived at his home with ex-wife Mary Ann Campbell.
He testified that, after firing a warning shot, Medley looked like he was reaching for a weapon as he turned toward Campbell.
Campbell told the court that he tried to shoot him in the leg but hit him in the lower abdomen.
The Gilmer County jury then went into deliberation, and decided that Campbell is not guilty of second degree murder, not guilty of voluntary manslaughter, but guilty of involuntary manslaughter.
He could be facing one year in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail.
