Dr. Elias Haikal Khoury, a Grantsville physician, has been placed
on probation for a two year period, by the state Board of Medicine. The board says he will not
be allowed to perform surgeries in hospitals or any outpatient facility.
He is not on the staff of Minnie Hamilton Health Care in Grantsville.
Roane General Hospital told the state Board of Medicine in 1999 that Dr.
Khoury practiced medicine below the standard of care, and practiced
medicine and surgery twice without proof of liability insurance, among other
reasons. The hospital has revoked the doctor's privileges.
The hospital also told the medical board that Khoury did not declare medical
malpractice settlements on two occasions.
The physician will be allowed to practice limited
surgeries in his office. He can perform toenail removal, breast biopsies, cyst
removals, noninvasive vasectomies and mole removals.
The state Board of Medicine will randomly inspect Khoury's patient
records.
