GOOD NEWS THIS WEEK FOR JOAN SATTERFIELD - Change In Mailing Address

(03/29/2007)
Calhoun's Department of Highways administrator Joan Satterfield, who has been seriously ill, got some good news this week.

(Read update below from her daughter, with change in address for mailing cards)

She is a patient in the Cleveland Clinic, diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia, a particularly difficult cancer that will require intensive treatment for at least six months.

Joan has been in remission from an earlier bout with lymphoma, but this cancer appears to be unrelated.

The family requests that the community be prayerful for her recovery, and her name added to community prayer chains.

Joan's daughter, Tia, writes about her mother:

We received good news from the team of doctor's this week. Thankfully, mother will not have to undergo another initial round of the seven day two drug chemotherapy regimen that she just completed.

Her bone marrow tests results came back clear!

She will be in the hospital for the next 2-3 weeks until her immune system and blood cells count return. During this time, she will undergo blood transfusions, and receive many units of platelets.

From there, she will undergo four more rounds of chemotherapy over a four month span. She will be residing in the Cleveland area at the Hope Lodge for the majority of the time.

Her spirits have remained undaunted through this entire time. She is still her bright-hearted loving self that everyone knows. She is extremely appreciative of the overwhelming support she has received.

To date she has received approximately 150 cards; even one hand written from the governor. Her eyes light up when the mailman comes each day bearing more cards from the community, friends, and loved ones.

The curly haired beauty will be showing off a new hairdo when she returns home...bald! She officially had it shaved this afternoon (since one of the side effects to this chemo is painful hair loss).

Once again, I would like to thank everyone for keeping mother and our family in their prayers...it is paying off. - Tia Satterfield
