The Kanawha County Parks and Recreation Commission has decided to accept A $650,000 bid for the Sandy Brae Golf Course.
Cabell County utilities contractor Scott Pierson says he will keep the property for use as a golf course.
Pierson was the sole bidder, bidding $50,000 less than former state Senator Oshel Craigo. Craigo had bid $700,000, but the county decided to try again for a higher bid.
Craigo said he planned to build a housing subdivision on the property, which is located partially on the Roane County line.
Kanawha County took over operation of Sandy Brae years ago, but has since struggled with it financially.
