STATE POLICE RETURN TO WIRT AND PLEASANTS

(03/21/2007)
The West Virginia State Police's plan to regionally assign their officers to where there is a greater need, has apparently been reversed for now.

Most recently, troopers were pulled from Wirt and Pleasants Counties and sent to Wood.

They have now returned to their original assignments following complaints issued by county sheriffs, the public and local officials.

The latest action returned two troopers to Pleasants County and three troopers to the Elizabeth detachment.

Those officers will be responding to and covering sections of Wood County.

Speculation has risen that troopers will be pulled from the Grantsville Detachment, since no officer has come forward to fill the local post as detachment commander.

Supervisor Dale Fluharty said he knew of no plan to pull officers from Calhoun.
