CALHOUN TEACHERS WILL NOT WALK-OUT TOMORROW

(03/13/2007)
Teachers and other school employees displeased with their 3.5 percent pay raise will stage a one-day walkout across the state Wednesday.

Calhoun teachers voted last week against participating in the walk-out, according to Kelley Whytsell, local president of the WV Education Association.

Whytsell said "A majority decided not to walk-out."

About 60 Calhoun teachers belong to the WV Education Association from all the county's schools.

Charles Delauder of the West Virginia Education Association, said he doesn't know how many school employees would participate. The WVEA has about 17,000 members.

American Federation of Teacher's president Judy Hale said she opposed the planned one-day walkout, although some of that unions members could participate.
