Oma Virginia Harris
West, 92, of Bidwell (Rio Grande Community), passed
away at the home of her daughter, Ruth Bostic, on
Saturday, August 25, 2001.
She was born December 5, 1908 at Grantsville, Calhoun
County, West Virginia, daughter of the late Asa B.
Harris and Virgin Barnes Harris.
She was a graduate of Alderson-Broaddus College in
Philippi, West Virginia, and had taught at White Pine
School in Calhoun County.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Rio
Grande, where she had served as Deaconess and Flower
Stewardess.
She married Cecil West on February 1, 1936 in
Grantsville, and he preceded her in death on March 29,
1988. Also preceding her in death were two brothers
and a sister.
She is survived by two sons, a daughter-in-law and a
daughter, Joseph II and Eleanor West of Vinton, David
West of Bidwell, and Ruth Bostic of Bidwell; eight
grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a
great-great-granddaughter; and two sisters, Mary
Proudfoot of Reading, Pennsylvania, and Geneva Johnson
of Trenton, Michigan.
Services were held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 28, 2001
at Calvary Baptist Church in Rio Grande, with the Rev.
Luther Tracy and the Rev. Peter Colen officiating.
Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery.
