With just over six minutes remaining in first half play All-American
Lady Pioneer Rachel Redick hit a left side 3-pointer and broke the WVIAC women's scoring record. Her point total is 2,261, and her 16 points for the game was 'just' what she needed to accomplish the feat. University of Charleston's Lisa Lee previously held the record at 2.260.
Game play stopped briefly to honor Redick's achievement.
Head coach Steve Harold opted to let his starters sit out the rest of
the game. Four of the five had 18 minutes of play or less.
"It worked out perfect," Harold said afterward. He wanted the entire
team to get plenty of court time before the upcoming WVIAC tournaments, and avoid risking injury to key players.
Six of eleven Lady Pioneers scored in double-figures, and everyone had points on the board. Glenville easily over-powered Davis and Elkins 95-56.
The team's 2007 regular season officially concluded Saturday. It marked the first time since 2004 any WVIAC team remained undefeated in conference play. The Lady Pioneers finished the regular season (27-2) (18-0), and are the WVIAC Regular Season Champions.
As top seed in next week's WVIAC Tournament, the Lady Pioneers enter
quarterfinal play Wednesday. The brackets and game times haven't been
announced as yet.
