CRIMES OF PASSION

KILLS GIRLFRIENDS EX-HUSBAND - A Friday night shooting in Elkins resulted in murder.

Dan Snider, 49, was arrested for allegedly shooting his girlfriend's ex-husband, Leslie Woodford. The Randolph County Sheriff's Department said it started when Woodford went to his ex-wife's father's home near Alpena and pointed a gun at the man's head and threatened to kill his family.

Woodford then left and headed toward Snider's home in Elkins where gunfire was exchanged and Woodford was shot.

He was flown by HealthNet to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown where he died.

MAN INDICTED FOR MURDER - A Mercer County man has been indicted on first-degree murder in the August, 2006 shooting of a Summers County man. James Charles Proffitt, 37, of Camp Creek is accused of killing 33-year-old Hank Blankenship at the Kegley Post Office.

Police say the shooting stemmed from a earlier dispute likely related to the fact that Proffitt had dated the victim's sister.
