More Canada geese are staying in West Virginia because of mild winter weather.
The Department of Natural Resources says biologists counted more than 55 hundred Canada geese in January, compared to 3,800 geese during the same period last year.
The number of ducks fell slightly from last year, the DNR says
when the weather is mild, ducks remain farther north or scatter among smaller water bodies.
This year's survey was conducted on several rivers and large lakes.
