Stephen Meadows played like the all-conference he is while two of his
lesser-known teammates rained in three-point goals as the Clay Panthers took
a 64-33 win over Calhoun County Tuesday night.
Meadows, a 6-6 senior, scored 16 points and grabbed 15 rebounds - both game
highs - despite playing about three quarters.
But the pair that really put the dagger in the heart of the winless Red
Devils was J.D. Johnson and Cory Igo, who combined for seven three-point
goals. Johnson had four treys while scoring 15 points while Igo added three
treys and 11 points.
For 0-16 Calhoun Zach Moore led the way with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Josh
Moore and Jacob Dodd added six points apiece while Lucas Morford chipped in
with five and Andrew Norman added two. Harold McCumbers, Anthony Richards,
Chuck Kendall, Justin Gerwig and Greg Myers all played but did not score.
Once again the Red Devils started off slowly, falling behind 12-5 at the end
of the first quarter.
The offense got a little better in the second quarter and rang up 11 points
to trail by 11 - 27-16 - at halftime.
Once again, however, the Red Devils sputtered in the third quarter again
scoring only five points. Clay scored 18 and basically broke the game open
with a 45-21 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
Clay won the reserve game by posting a 59-29 victory over the undermanned
Red Devils.
Myers led the Red Devils with 10 points while McCumbers added nine. Kendall
added five, Richards four and Cai Clothier one. Moore, Norman and Gerwig all
played but did not score.
The Red Devils are now 0-12.
Jesse Street led Clay with 11 while Daniel Raike added 10.
Calhoun is idle until Monday night when it plays host to Doddridge.
