Senior center Tim White had 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the
seventh-ranked Gilmer Titans to a 56-38 victory over winless Calhoun
Thursday night.
The 6-6 White was the Titans only double-digit scorer as Gilmer coach Steve
Shuff went to his bench early and often.
The first quarter was pretty evenly played except for a late surge that gave
the Titans a 17-10 lead. A slow second quarter by Calhoun allowed the Titans
to take 28-15 halftime lead.
Gilmer put things away in the third quarter as it scored 14 points and held
the Red Devils scoreless until late in the period. Overall the Red Devils
scored only four points and trailed 42-19 after three.
Shuff went to his bench in the fourth quarter and the Red Devils sliced into
the margin by outscoring the Titans 19-14.
Josh DeWeese led the 0-15 Red Devils with a 16 point 10 rebound effort.
Zach Moore backed DeWeese with eight points and nine rebounds. Jacob Dodd
added six points while Andrew Norman and Justin Gerwig added three apiece.
Chuck Kendall chipped in with two points, six rebounds and a steal in
limited action.
Greg Myers, Anthony Richards, Lucas Morford and Cai Clothier all played but
did not score.
There was no junior varsity game.
Calhoun will try to get its first win Tuesday when Clay County comes to
Mount Zion.
