Calhoun's quest for victory continued to be fruitless.
Tuesday night the Red Devils traveled to Clay County where they suffered a
76-46 setback.
Once again the Red Devils started out slowly. Once again they surged back.
But once again it was not enough for the 0-12 Red Devils.
Clay jumped to a 19-9 lead only to have Calhoun battle back to within single
digits. That's when the wheels came off the wagon as the Red Devils suffered
some untimely fouls and Clay took a 38-22 halftime lead. The Red Devils were
within nine when the wheels came off.
Calhoun shook off the lethargy after intermission but the Panthers countered
with a blistering three-point barrage. Overall the Panthers hit nine
three-point goals compared to four by the Red Devils.
Zach Moore and Jacob Dodd led the Red Devils with 13 apiece. Josh DeWeese
added 10 points and 17 rebounds while Andrew Norman chipped in with eight.
Justin Gerwig added two while Lucas Morford, Greg Myers, Kyle Keesler and
Harold McCumbers all played but did not score.
Moore backed DeWeese on the boards with 12 rebounds while Dodd chipped in
with six and Norman four. Norman also had two steals and three assists. Dodd
had a pair of blocks.
For Clay, 7-4, Steven Jones had a game high 23 points.
Clay also won the reserve game with a 68-23 victory against the undermanned
Red Devils.
Calhoun did not have the services of freshman Chuck Kendall and had to play
most of the game with only a bare minimum of five players.
McCumbers and Myers led the Red Devils with nine points each while Anthony
Richards added five. Keesler added two and Cai Clothier one. Noah Sweeney
played but did not score for the 0-9 Red Devils.
Richards led the Red Devils on the boards with 12 rebounds while Clothier
added nine and McCumbers four. McCumbers also had three steals.
The Red Devils will once again try to get into the win column when it
entertains Braxton County in a doubleheader Thursday night.
