The crime was solved with the discovery of a bottle of BBQ sauce.
The owner of Southern Red's Barbecue in Beckley reported the theft of 12 pork shoulders and six beef briskets, stolen from their outside grill Thursday.
The meat was worth $1,500, making the theft a felony.
Police got a tip that meat chunks were discovered at a Red Carpet Inn about four miles away.
Sergeant Jeff McPeake spotted a bottle of barbecue sauce in plain view atop a dresser after a woman answered the door at the Inn.
She told the officer two friends had brought over a bunch of meat the night before. A search of her room led to the discovery of 50 pounds of meat crammed into two hotel refrigerators.
