Route 5 travelers will be happy to know the new Elizabeth bridge will be
opened for traffic on Monday, according to George Shinksy, District Three
construction engineer.
"Assuming no last minute problems arise, we expect to divert traffic from
the temporary bridge onto the new structure around noon on Monday," he
said.
Shinsky said the project is coming in before the estimated date of
completion of August 31.
"Every project has some unexpected problems, but for the most part, this
project went fairly well," Shinsky added. The project was marred by a worker
falling to his death during the construction of the temporary bridge.
Orders Construction of St. Albans is the contractor for the $3.8 million dollar
structure, which started in January, 2000.
