January is recognized as Cervical Cancer Awareness month and Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center, Inc. would like to remind you to be aware of the risk factors.
Some women have a higher chance than others of getting cervical cancer. Are any of these variables true for you?
I have never had a Pap test.
I have not had a Pap test for a few years.
I am a smoker.
I started having intercourse when I was 16 or younger.
I have had intercourse with multiple partners.
My doctor or nurse told me I have HPV (Human Papillomavirus).
If any of these variables are true for you, it could mean that you are at a greater risk for developing cervical cancer than someone who has none of these things.
There are things you can do to lower your chances of getting cervical cancer including if you smoke-quit smoking. The most important thing you can do is to see a doctor or nurse for a Pap test every year, even after the change of life. If you need more or less, your doctor or nurse will tell you.
January 2007 is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month. Be aware and be prepared. To schedule your annual exam at MHHCC, please call 354-9244. |
