WV KNIFE AND GUN CLUB - Bar Killing, Pizza Shooting, Critical Stand-Off

(12/27/2006)
BOONE COUNTY BAR TROUBLE X2 - It first happened Saturday evening about 11 p.m. when the Boone County Sheriff's office was called out to Sterno's Bar & Grill in Ashford, after someone had been beat with a pool stick.

When an ambulance crew arrived, they found Walter McDerment, 47, lying on the floor of the bar. He was rushed to CAMC General Hospital, where he later died.

Police arrested Jason Gillispie, 24, from Alum Creek and charged him with murder.

Later, the father of the man charged in the beating death was shot at the same bar where the homicide occurred.

Johnny Gillispie of Alum Creek was shot and wounded at Sterno's during a brawl. He was listed in fair condition Tuesday at Charleston Area Medical Center.

No one has been charged in the shooting of Johnny Gillispie.

A state corrections officer, Mike Chapman says he was attacked at the bar by Gillispie and three other men. During the struggle, Chapman says his gun accidentally went off and hit Gillispie.

EAST END CHARLESTON GUN PLAY - A Charleston man was shot in the buttocks over the holiday, according to Charleston police.

David Means, 39, of Charleston, was shot in front of Domino's Pizza on Washington St. E., after getting off work from the establishment.

Means encountered two black males he didn't know, said Sgt. C.E. Sisson of the Charleston Police Department, one shooting him.

Means drove himself to Saint Francis Hospital.

ARMED MASON CO, MAN ARRESTED - Police in Mason County avoided what could have been a critical situation when they were able to arrest a man with a weapon after he had allegedly broken into his father's home.

Mason County Sheriff Scott Simms says Raymond Bonecutter, 46, of Leon kicked in the back door of his father's house and then threatened to shoot him.

Bonecutter returned to his own house and was armed when police arrived.

Sheriff Simms says Bonecutter refused to speak with police for about three and a half hours, but finally agreed to allow police to enter his house.

He then surrendered and was taken into custody without incident. He is charged with nighttime burglary.
