Calhoun played perhaps its best game of the season but the Red Devils had
three problems they could not overcome.
First was Zane Schneider. The hot-shooting senior scored a career-high 30
points.
Next was Seth Ullman, who snaked his way through the Calhoun defense for 18
points.
The third thing was fouls. The Crusaders shot 25 and made 14. Calhoun was
one of four.
Those three things combined to give the Crusaders a 67-49 victory over the
visiting Red Devils Thursday night.
The Crusaders also won the reserve game with a 44-25 victory.
Parkersburg Catholic took a quick 8-0 lead before Calhoun got on the board
with Jacob Dodd's three-point goal from the corner.
Calhoun battled back to move within two points twice - 20-18 and 22-20 -
before the Crusaders slowly pulled away.
Parkersburg Catholic was on top 33-26 at the half but an early spurt in the
third quarter gave it a double-digit lead and Calhoun was never able to claw
back into it.
Josh DeWeese led the Red Devils with 16 points and 16 rebounds while Zach
Moore added 15 points and 10 rebounds. Dodd had his season high with 11
points while adding five rebounds.
Lucas Morford added three points while Andrew Norman had two points and four
assists. Justin Gerwig also had two points.
Kyle Keesler and Chuck played but did not score.
Keesler did lead the way in the reserve game for the Red Devils with 10
points while Kendall added nine. Harold McCumbers with five and Anthony
Richards with one rounded out the scoring. Greg Myers, Cai Clothier all
played but did not score.
McCumbers led Calhoun with six rebounds while Myers and Kendall added five
apiece. Kendall also had three steals.
Calhoun returns to action tonight playing host Clarksburg Notre Dame in the
Notre Dame Christmas Tournament.
The Red Devils will play either Williamstown or Webster County Saturday.
